Train Ride

  • Oct. 13th, 2007 at 9:43 PM

Uggg... I just typed a long entry about our eventful train ride trip today, but I just lost all of it, so here is the 'Cliff's Notes' version of it!

We drove up to Ione, WA w/all the kids and my mom to take a 1.5hr. train ride along the Pend Orielle River. It was a beautiful ride! Chandler really enjoyed it, since he is really into trains! Some of the big events were that we got there w/plenty of time to spare, which was a good thing because Megan decided that it was a good time to experience her first real blow-out. It smelled so bad and went half way up her back! So after about 8-10 diaper wipes and a change of clothing, we were off to the train. What a beautiful ride it was!! The trees were all changing colors to beautiful yellows, reds, oranges etc. The water was like glass so you could see the reflection of the trees in it! I'm attaching a few pictures of the ride. There were so many pretty scenery pictures, it was hard to choose which ones.  The train rides are sponsored by the Ione, WA Lions Club. Those of you who live in this area should take the trip sometime! Next weekend is their last ride for the season. They do 3 rides on Sat. and 3 on Sunday.   Ok, I'll give you some more of the lead up events to the trip...

We had heard that it took 2hrs. to get there and that we needed to be there 1/2hr before the train left (it left at 3pm). We were hoping to leave by 11:30pm so we could stop and get gas before we picked up my mom. So at 10:45 I got out of the shower and got ready, which after I was done we had 30 min. to get everyone into the car. I started making sandwiches for the trip while both girls were crying, Chandler was asking me to help him w/his shoes, and I did, but something wasn't right so he kicked it off and started whining/crying about it. I should have just sat down and cried too since that was the thing to be doing at that time!! I took a deep breath and continued the sandwiches, got all the girls stuff together, bottles, water, clothing, blankets and so on, as well as Chandler's things.  Brady was busy putting the 3rd row seat in the Expedition and moving Chandler's carseat to the back. Finally we were all loaded, and late at that.

We drove to Costco to get gas,  well so was the rest of Spokane!!! There were some long lines, but I convinced Brady to pick the short line, which meant stretching the gas hose across the car, which he HATES doing, so I offered to pump it.  He accepted and washed the windows while I held the nozzle. While washing the back window he made it very obvious that the hose was in the way, but we were out of there sooner than if we were to pump it on the right side, and hey, it's all the same gas no matter how you get it into your car right?? That's just one area where we are different (hee hee).

After getting gas we proceed to pick up my mom, and when she gets in the car she offers to buy us all a Starbucks if we wanted to stop. Hey, that sounds good, we can do it fast, since we're already running behind! Well, we get in the drive thru behind 2 other cars, one which seemed to have ordered for 10 people because it took FOREVER! Finally, after getting our drinks we were off to Ione, WA.  Luckily it didn't take the full 2hr. and we arrived w/time to spare, leading us to the events in my first paragraph.  The trip up was pretty w/all the beautiful fall colors! God sure is good to us by giving us such gorgeous countrysides to drive through! Chandler talked most of the way there, which was pretty cute! The girls slept a little but were pretty content most of the time.

Well I better get this posted before I lose it again!!  I'll add pics after I post, so I don't lose anything!

We stopped for 5 min. on the train tressel (sp?) at least 100' above the water!!

The reflection of the trees was so pretty!

From the train tressel

It was a little chilly since we were in an 'open-air' train car, the girls are bundled under the blankets :o)

Chandler doesn't like his picture taken these days, so this was one of the better ones we got.

Back to Work

  • Aug. 30th, 2007 at 9:31 PM

Well, my stay at home mom days are over, and have been over since school started for WSU on Aug. 20.  Things have been going good, since I do only teach 2 hrs/day M-Th. I see it's been a month, almost, since my last entry and I'm sorry to say nothing really exciting has occured for us, just the same old same old.  We have managed to finally decide on a paint color that we will be painting almost the entire inside of our home, since I'm getting really tired of the 'hospital white'.  After watching HGTV all summer I've come to know that it's very cold and un-inviting.  Sooo... needless to say we (well mostly my husband) have our work cut out for us over the next few weekends, and then some I'm sure. Those of you who know my husband and how particular he is will understand that I will probably only be painting in the large wide-open areas of the walls, and that's all :o)  Our bathroom is almost complete downstairs, which I'm looking forward to having done!

September is looking to be a busy month for us. Next weekend, My husband and Chandler, Thad and Cody, Chris and Ethan are all going to Seattle to watch the WSU Cougars play San Diego State. They will all be staying the night at a hotel and having a wonderful time while Diane and her four babies and me and my two will be here at our house. I'm not sure who will have more fun??!!

The following weekend we will be venturing to Pullman so that Brady and Chandler, Thad and Cody can go to the WSU v.s. U of I football game and Diane and I will be at their house w/the 6 babies.... hmmm.... there seems to be a trend starting!

The following weekend we will be travelling to Orcas Island, on the San Juans, for Brady's brother's wedding. It should be a fun time since all the relatives from the mid-west will be there as well. We've never been to Orcas Island, so we're looking forward to the adventure! It will be the longest road trip we've taken w/the girls.

Our girls are sure growing fast, they are almost 4 mo. old already!! Big brother is growing up too! They are so much fun, we are truly blessed!!

Too Fast!

  • Aug. 1st, 2007 at 10:00 AM

Boy, time has sure gone too fast this summer, as I figured it would. Only 2 1/2 weeks until I start teaching again! I have been off since the end of April and have loved it! I will only be teaching from 10-12 M-Th mornings but along w/teaching comes grading, travelling to Pullman etc.

My husband and I have really wanted to go somewhere just as a family one of these weekends but we are stumped as to what to do since we have 2 little babies and a 3 1/2 year old. Camping is OUT! But we've thought of staying in hotel somewhere overnight, or just doing a day trip, but where? We want to go somewhere not too far away, so we don't have to drive forever, but go and just have fun w/the family before the fall hits. I am open to any suggestions :o)

We have come off of a long stretch of having family staying over, visitors etc. coming to see the babies and I've seen it really gets tiring!! Especially when it's family members that are hard to be around :o) Those of you who know my family, in-laws etc. know what I'm talking about. Family is wonderful, don't get me wrong, but sometimes it's easier to keep a distance between us. I could go on and on about it, but I won't bore you.

I do love having friends stop by, bbqing, etc. it's therapy for me most of the time, since I'm home w/children all day!  I have struggled recently with finding/making time to sit down, taking even 3-5 min. reading the bible, praying, saying 'hi' to God, in the midst of my busy days feeding babies, entertaining our little boy, paying bills, etc. etc. Sometimes I find myself feeling guilty, not feeling like I'm doing very well at holding my end of the bargain being a Christian, if you know what I mean. I KNOW God loves me and accepts me for who I am but I still feel 'detached' in the midst of my daily routines etc.  His grace has been abundantly poured out on me and that's what I depend on each day! Thank you Jesus for taking us as we are and giving us the grace to move forward!

I may just kind of be rambling but these are just some things I've been going through recently. Maybe if we find a fun place to go w/the family I'll have some fun adventures to write about!!  I hope all enjoy your last few weeks of summer!!

SOLD!

  • Jul. 17th, 2007 at 11:05 AM

As of tomorrow morning our van will be sold! God is so good! The gal came and drove it on Sat. and I signed papers yesterday, she doesn't sign her papers until tomorrow morning.  We are loving our Expedition.  We had it detailed on Sat. because my wonderful husband wanted it to feel 'like new', those of you who know him should understand. But even after the detailers were done w/it he still found things they missed. I told him he should have done it himself, which he would have done a great job, and saved us quite a bit of money!! But the time it would have taken him was the issue. Anyway, it's working great for us and we are so happy we made the switch.  When I go to fill up the gas tank I maybe thinking otherwise :o)

We now have grass growing in our back yard too!! Brady seeded over a week ago and its coming in strong! I can't wait for it to be fully in so Murphy, our dog, can go out back again, instead of on a leash in the front yard to do his business, while barking at the neighbors :o(  I think Chandler is anxious for it too!

Projects continue at our house, Brady is just about finished tiling the bath area downstairs and then will get the counter, sink, faucet and mirror in and we will have a fully functioning bathroom for our guests!! I am waiting for the tiling to be finished so then I can use the soaking tub down there, it's deeper than the normal size tubs upstairs, which is wonderful!! I will be moving our shower curtain, rugs etc. from upstairs to the new bathroom downstairs which means I get to go shopping for a new curtain and accessories for upstairs!

New Rig

  • Jul. 13th, 2007 at 10:29 PM

Well we did it, we bought a 2000 Expedition today and we love it. It's got everything we were wanting and for a great price. It's red w/tan leather interior and the kids fit perfect in the back seat, plus we have room for other passengers if needed! The huge praise report is that we had someone offer on our van today and they are coming to look at it tomorrow, kinda weird that they offered before they saw it in person, so hopefully  the sale goes through. We did love our van w/all the options etc. that it had on it, but just didn't work for us.  I'm looking forward to end our car shopping days, except for the fact that now we will be selling our Explorer, since we don't need two suv's to buy gas for! Brady will probably end up getting a VW of some kind to drive to work everyday.  Hopefully this ends up being a good rig for us, so far so good!

Minivan Anyone?

  • Jul. 6th, 2007 at 8:47 PM

Ohhh, such dilemma in our household! We bought a minivan, a very nice one at that, w/all the options, before the twins were born thinking it would be the perfect family vehicle for us. Well, after MANY different carseat configuations we are realizing it's not really ideal for us. We have to crawl inside the van to put the girls in the back. We had to move Chandler to the front bucket seat since I was having to literally throw things (water, pens, pretzels, etc.) way in the back to him when he needed it, and if he didn't catch it he had to wait until we arrived at our destination to get that item, ugh. SOOOO..... we have been researching an SUV. We want to put all the kids on one bench seat and still have extra seating to take more people, and the van seat is too short to fit 3 carseats. We are now considering buying an Expedition, but needing to sell the van as well. I hate having a car payment, let alone 2!!!  Boy I sure wish cars had a 30 day risk free trial period and you could return it for a full refund if it didn't work out.  Sooo, needless to say we will probably be putting an offer on an expedition on Monday, wish us luck, I want to be DONE car shopping!!! If you know of anyone in the market for a GREAT minivan, let me know, I know where they can get one!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

  • Jun. 29th, 2007 at 10:36 PM

Well, today was finally the day we were able to get the concrete for the extension of our patio, a slab for the future shed, and a sidewalk on the side of the garage connecting to the driveway.  It was a beautiful day all day, our friends arrived to help Brady haul the 4 yds of concrete into it's proper place. About 20 min. into doing all of this the heavens opened up and it POURED down rain! It rained sideways, since they were also enduring about 20-30mph winds as well. Brady says it rained harder than he has seen in a LONG TIME! It wasn't your typical spring/summer rain, it was the rain of all rains!! Not the ideal situation for setting concrete!! The rain pelted the freshly laid concrete as Brady, Chris, my Dad, and three other people helped us haul wheelbarrows full of concrete and scurring to get it all covered w/tarps etc. (I was inside taking care of babies during all of this, plus I don't do well w/manual labor!) They were all drenched!! Dripping wet!!! We were pretty discouraged, thinking it wasn't going to set right and we'd have to tear it all up and start over, after paying a pretty penny for the concrete to be delivered.  After at least a half-hour of pouring down rain, lightning, and thunder the blue skies and sunshine returned!  Our concrete pads were saved! They turned out very nice, in spite of it all! We all at pizza and had brownies and ice cream and all of our WONDERFUL friends went home to clean up. We couldn't have done it without everyone who helped us. I think we owe them all big time, after what they went through for us today. We did try to have it hired out and have it done for us, but not one contractor called Brady back, I think he called at least five different places! We are so grateful to have it done, because now we get to plant grass and actually have a real back yard, and not just a sandy dessert!

Getting Better

  • Jun. 26th, 2007 at 10:03 AM

Ok, since my last post my husband has taken the new desk apart and returned it to Staples. It was just too small and the cpu got hot in the cpu cupboard. Now, we have our old desk back in place, just cut down a little smaller. Chaos is starting to turn to a little more 'peace' day by day.  Speaking of days, are any of you feeling like the days just fly by? Maybe it's because I don't do much more than feed babies, try to keep up on house cleaning, go for walks etc. I feel like I get up, brush my teeth, do a few feedings and it's time to go to bed to do it all over again tomorrow! Sheesh, time is sure flying! Our office is not yet really 'organized' but it's getting there! Today is vacuuming day! Praise God for the carpet we chose, I can go over 2 weeks w/out vacuuming and you would never notice!! What grace my carpet has to offer me!! I probably shouldn't be boasting about carpet since navywife doesn't even have carpet in her living room to vacuum yet!!

It's almost time for us to actually get our back lawn put in! No more sand being drug into the house by our little boy who loves to wear his crocs outside in the back while chasing our dog Murphy for long periods of time. Sand gets into all the holes in his crocs and they don't always get taken off before he comes in the kitchen! It will be so nice to not deal w/that anymore! We will be getting the concrete, this week, to extend our patio by 4', which is what we've been waiting for before we seed the yard. We will hopefully have a nice lawn before summer is over!

Ahhh... Home Crap Home

  • Jun. 20th, 2007 at 11:02 PM

If any of you have seen the movie "Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and Shelly Long, my subject line should sound familiar to you! I've realized I haven't posted in a while!! The girls are doing great! Growing like they should be. Don't get me wrong, I love our house! But the reason for my subject line is that I have had the urge to clean/organize our office and I wanted to act on it before that urge died off. So... we decided to order a new desk and get things organized, which meant moving the bookshelf from the family room into the office, rearrange the family room, clear out/off the current desk, assemble the new desk, clean out drawers, etc. etc. So needless to say, our family room is in upheaval! What was I thinking??? It will be nice when it's all done and our office feels peaceful, instead of being a catch all room.

Time has been going by so fast! My wonderful husband only has 2 more weeks off before he goes back to work and I fly solo w/the 3 kids! Boy do I hope they're sleeping through the night by then :o) I can always dream!

Together at last!

  • Jun. 6th, 2007 at 7:24 AM

Well, we brought our little darlings home, finally, on Sat. afternoon. We thought it was going to be late morning, but ended up not getting home until about 3pm, but I guess I should have expected that when dealing with hospitals! We had to wait for the dr. to round and do their 'write up' on them before we could go. In the meantime we had their 'first photos' done. Holy cow! I think we got the new gal who had never worked w/babies much, told us the same thing about 10 times, while trying to get the 'perfect' picture of each of them then them together. Husband in the meantime is biting his lip, I know he's dying to say "It's a DIGITAL camera! Just click it tons of times and you'll get at least one good picture!" We go through this anytime we've our our older child's pictures done 'professionally'.  After about a 45 minute ordeal the pics were done. We got the email the next day saying they were posted online! I click the link to each child and the ones they did together and EVERYTHING about them were wrong! They mixed up their names and put their brother's name as Carson, ugh. SCREW IT!!! I made a gentle phone call to 'customer care' and politely asked them to just take everything off line, since NONE of it was right! He proceeded to tell me that I could fix it all myself online. I'm sorry, but if you were dying to see our little one's first pictures, you'll just have to enjoy the ones you've already seen, because you won't be seeing their darling faces on the hospital website, cuz if you did, you would be confused which one was which!

Ok, being at home as a family of 5 is wonderful. We are blessed with two pretty laid back little girls! So far they are taking after their older brother, which is what we were hoping for!  Those who know me, know I'm not really a 'scheduled' person when it comes to babies, but so far they have stuck to a pretty good eating schedule, for the most part, which has been handy! We love them so much and so does their brother!!

I have been able to nurse them quite a bit but, I'm seeing that I should start doing it more discretely these days. Last night, our darling 3 yr old took his glow worm 'baby' proceeded to lift his shirt, hold the 'baby' to his chest and tell me he was feeding her. Oh goodness!

I went on my first outing alone the other day! Husband stayed home w/the 3 little ones, mind you they were all sleeping, but I was still grateful for him and getting the chance to venture out alone! He has been such a great help! Especially w/the night feedings, which have been going well, only waking up at 3am and 6am to feed them. Well, we feed them at midnight too, but still feeling pretty well rested!! Having him home for the next six weeks is going to be wonderful!! I'm going to get spoiled w/all the help!

Sound of Music

  • May. 31st, 2007 at 6:53 AM

Well last week my husband reminded me that we had talked about seeing the play The Sound of Music, at the Spokane Civic Theatre, but this was back in Feb. or so when we knew it was playing at the end of May and there would be no way I would be able to go since I would be HUGELY pregnant, but since our little darlings decided to come early we thought we would take our last outing out together for a long while!  After I was with the girls for 2 feedings yesterday afternoon,  my wonderful husband met me at the hospital where he held them for a while, then we had dinner in the hospital cafeteria, yes we are cheap! We also  didn't have time to go out to dinner, since we would rather spend every minute w/our little girls that we can. We ate fast and made it to the play. It was very good, but it was hard for me since I have seen the movie about 100 times and can mouth everything that is being said along w/the actors in the movie, even w/out the movie playing I can get through quite a length of it. But I was glad we went.

Now onto our girls... Yesterday they both ate ALL of their feedings by bottle/nursing, which is what they need to be able to do to go home!!!! One of them had a couple small amounts go through her gavage (nose tube) but that was all!!! The other one pulled out her gavage last night and the nurse did not put it back in since she was eating so well! I was up at 5:20 am pumping again this morning and called to see how they did last night and it was the same thing, I was extremely happy to hear it!! I'll hopefully find out today how long they need to be doing this before they will allow them to come home, hopefully it won't be long!!  We can't wait!! But that also means I still have a little more shopping to do before they get home, since I won't be doing much of that on my own in the next little bit, but that's fine!

More Monitoring

  • May. 10th, 2007 at 3:33 PM

UGH, I had to go to Sacred Heart again today to be monitored for contractions. It's a time where I go, the nurses take a while to find the babies' heartbeats to be monitored, I answer all their questions for their file, that you'd think w/technology these days they can go back to when I was there 2x before and answered the same questions! Oh well... I just sit there, watch HGTV and TLC, eat a sandwich then wait for the all exciting resident doctor to come in and get 'checked'.  There has actually been some changes this time. I'm supposedly at 1 cm and 50% effaced, which my dr. said is nothing to worry about. So then I sign the release form and go on my merry way, about 3hr. later.  I will be at 34 wks tomorrow and they tell me that the babies should be very healthy and fine if they come anytime now, which is a relief. This all makes me want to pack my bags to be ready for when the time comes to possibly go early, that way I don't have to explain to Brady where things are for him to bring later :o) It's a beautiful day here again, in the 70's and should be hotter tomorrow!
I had an exciting Walgreen's shopping trip yesterday. I normally never go there, but Brady had seen they were clearancing out a lot of their diapers, pull-ups, swim diapers etc. So I went to 2 Walgreen stores and spent almost $200 on diapers!!!!!!!!! Oh goodness, and this is just the beginning! All the packages were either $5 or $3.50, w/the exception of a few. Hopefully we'll have enough to last us a couple months or more, but we'll see!

I was very glad to see Lakisha go last night on Idol, I don't like to watch her sing, I know that may seem mean, but I think it's her lips. I'm w/Niki, I think Melinda will win it all, and that it will come down to her and Jordin.

I wish all you mommies a very happy Mother's Day on Sunday!!

Lazy Day

  • May. 8th, 2007 at 2:09 PM

Well it's about 2:10pm and I stll am in my p.j's lying here in bed while Chandler is resting. It's beautiful here today, in the 80's!! I've got the window open in my room listening to the wonderful sounds of the roofers putting on a new roof behind us, if you don't know what that's like think of listening to a staple gun doing about 100 staples a minute, rather annoying!! I'll be glad when they're done! I woke up this morning with quite a bit of lower pressure so I'm trying to stay off my feet today. Speaking of feet, they are starting to get a little 'plump'. UGH!!!! I never had that with Chandler, my ankles stayed skinny etc. but I think my time of that is gone. I'm trying to drink more and more water, so we'll see how it goes.  I'm nervous the dr. is going to put me on more strict bedrest after I see him on Friday. Chandler is such a sport through all this. He is watching WAY more tv than usual, luckily PBS has quality shows between the times he gets up and when he goes to his nap :o) One of the shows he likes to watch is 'Sit and Be Fit', he will sometimes do the exercises w/the gal, it's so cute. I should be doing them w/him!!  He still normally sleeps 2.5-3.5 hrs. for his naps! Some days, like yesterday, they are cut short but he will just come and lay w/me. We are very excited for Michelle and her exciting news! My poor parents, I'm wondering if they think there is ever going to be an end to more babies!! They know for sure Diane and I are NEVER having more children, Michell will tell you they are NOT having any more after this one, so we'll see what Terri has in store!! When Micelle's little one(s), I tease her that she's going to have twins too, is here my parents will have 12 grandchildren under the age of 6! That should make for some exciting holiday gatherings! My mom just keeps saying they need a bigger house! I am so blessed by my family!

I did it!

  • May. 7th, 2007 at 8:32 AM

Well after much ado I finally set up an account.  I can't promise I'll have real exciting entries, but I will do my best. Life isn't too exciting these days, unless you consider laying on the couch or in bed for a minimum of four hours a day, watching QVC, since that's the only exciting thing on TV in the afternoon when you don't have full cable. I'm sure some of you are thinking, that sounds wonderful right now!! I want someone to make me rest!!  I am at 33 weeks and 3 days today and the babies are doing great!! We are trying to get the babies' room ready, which is quite an ordeal. I told Brady that I feel like we're moving again, since things are in such disaray right now, changing dressers, going through clothes, organizing the closet etc. UGH. The hard part is I can't do anything to help, other than sit in the chair and sort clothes. My cousin Stacy came over this weekend to help with it and it was a huge blessing, but we still have a ways to go!!  Brady is working so hard! He does EVERYTHING!!! I am not able to do any house work, although I finally wiped down our bathroom counter, since it had been a while. He does laundry, dishes, vacuuming, you name it. Plus he is whitewashing the dressers for the babies' room, trying to get stuff organized that once was in the closet in the nursery, working on finishing more of the basement bathroom, and the list goes on and on!!! He told me one night "I can't wait for life to get back to normal", "oh wait, it's never going to be normal again!" He is so wonderful, I can't even say in words how grateful I am for him!! He is such an awesome dad and husband, and he does all this work without any complaining!! If it were me, I'm sure I'd be complaining all along the way!  I get tears just thinking about how great he has been!! We are very excited about the soon arrival of our twin girls, but life as we know it will be rather hectic I'm sure. I can only pray/wish for perfect little babies that sleep all the time, only cry when they're hungry, and are just a breeze, but I'm sure we are in for a rude awakening at times! If you're wondering about names, well we're still working on it. The only name we have so far is Megan Alice, the other is still up for debate, so hopefully we'll decide on it before we leave the hospital!

I know this is getting long, but I have to tell you about our great shopping deal yesterday! We went to Sears for their 'Friends and Family' night last night, knowing we could get an extra 10% off a double stroller and carseats for the girls.  Well, when it rang up I noticed the stroller rang up at $64.99, and the tag on the display said $149.00. I told the gal " I think you rang up a single stroller, not the double, it's supposed to be 149.00" She went and checked and said "No, I rang up the right one." I told her I was really trying to be honest, but I'm sure happy to pay the $64.99 (-10% even).  God sure loves us!! Brady's reply was "Michelle's going to hate us" because we always seem to get deals like this, and she claims she never does, or they are very few and far between!

Ok, I'll give your eyes a rest for a while. Have a wonderful day!!
